About BEN

Ben White_6073.png

I am a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional and FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot. My passion is to acquire and use geospatial data to improve the environment and the lives of those around me. I have over 12 years of experience using GIS in the fields of:

- cadaster & land administration systems

- public health & spatial epidemiology

- wholesale food production

- natural resource ecology

- archaeology

At first glance these may all seem to be quite unrelated. However they have something in common.

DATA

The ability to formulate hypotheses, find and collect data, then use that data to test hypotheses. I excel at finding data, learning its origin, biases, limitations, and analyzing it (sometimes ad nauseam). I come from a family of teachers and the importance of not only sharing information but doing so in a meaningful and competent way is also important to me.

As you can probably tell by my work history and interests, I have a lot of passions in life. I like learning new things, especially by deconstructing things/concepts to fully understand and appreciate how they work. I'm self-motivated and thrive in a creative and flexible environment. There's a term floating around lately that I identify with. Multipotentialite.

A multipotentialite is a person who has many different interests and creative pursuits in life. Multipotentialites have no “one true calling” the way specialists do.

In my work I prefer flexibility, to be constantly learning, and to feel like I'm making a positive impact. Here is a recent article published in the Colorado School of Public Health Alumni Magazine speaking to this.

Please feel free to look around at my work history, projects, artistic work and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for visiting!

"Data, I think, is one of the most powerful mechanisms for telling stories. I take a huge pile of data and I try to get it to tell stories."
